Hi my name is Alicia, I am 36yrs old and have 2 beautiful sons, a loving husband and a wonderful supportive family and set of friends. On the 13th August 2016 we all experienced something that we never thought would happen to us. After giving birth to my second son by caesarean I had a pulmonary embolism, that would see me almost lose my life.
On the 11th December 2020 (the day before my 23rd birthday) after a few days in and out of hospital for tests I was told I had a pulmonary embolism (PE) and several blood clots all over my lungs. It had been a strange and stressful year for everyone and the thought of having a health problem while the NHS dealt with a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic left me filled with dread.
It was a lovely sunny day on Thursday 25th June 2020 when I started to have a problem with my leg, I had taken the day off work to take advantage of the nice weather.
My thrombosis story began in 1986 when I was just 26 years old. Waking up one morning I felt severe pain in my back, like I would imagine it would feel to be stabbed in the lungs.
It started off as a DVT in my leg and then moved into my lungs. I was hospitalised for 5 days, the doctors initially thought that I may have also had coronavirus as well.......
My clot was found at 34 weeks pregnancy. Prior to it being found I’d had leg cramping my community midwife had passed off as “normal pregnancy pains” and I’d had chest pains that were investigated with no known cause.
I thought COVID would 'bounce' off me, if I was unlucky enough to catch it then I would probably have a few days of feeling a bit rubbish and that would be it.

I had been up early in the morning with my dogs and was walking up the pathway to my cottage when it hit me, shocking unbearable pain in my right leg that stopped me dead in my tracks. Managing to limp into the house I had no idea what was wrong and had to lie down and catch my breath for a moment.
